Henley-on-Thames  is our first stop, famous for the annual Regatta, where you will have time to explore before we enjoy a 2 hour river cruise. Enjoy a cream tea as we sail to picturesque Mapledurham Lock, past waterside homes, islands and picture postcard ‘Wind in the Willows’ country, the scenery that inspired the classic novel.

We begin today at The Savil Garden, a 35 acre oasis in Windsor Great Park.  Our next Autumn tour is to Ilfracombe, home of the famous mermaid sculpture by Damian Hirst, Verity, which stands in the harbour.

We begin with a visit to the twin villages of Lynton & Lynmouth where we take the cliff railway from one to the other. The unique, water powered funicular cliff lift takes you 500 ft up and down to the villages where you have time to explore the independent shops, cafes and learn about the devastating Lynmouth flood of 1952 in the museum. On our return to the hotel we will have a photo-stop at The Valley of The Rocks to enjoy the stunning views.

We have a free day in Ilfracombe so you have time to explore the town and walk around the harbour, or maybe even take a boat trip, weather permitting!

Castle Hill estate has been the home of the Fortescue family since 1684, and we will enjoy a visit to the beautiful gardens with it’s mature trees, historic follies and fountains. We continue to  the historical, market town of South Molton, on the edge of Exmoor National Park.  Our first Christmas tour this year is a return to The Shanklin Hotel on The Isle of Wight, where we are assured of  exceptional service and entertainment.

We will enjoy an excursion to The Needles, an iconic landmark in Alum Bay, home to the famous coloured sands the Island is known for. We then continue on to Cowes, famed for it’s regatta. We finish with a visit to The Donkey Sanctuary, home to over 100 donkeys, mules and Shetland ponies. The café is in a beautiful, converted barn overlooking the paddock where you can enjoy a tea and cake.

On ‘Christmas Day’ you will have a free day in Shanklin to explore the old town with it’s thatched cottages and quaint Christmas Shop, or walk along the front to Sandown, stopping for a coffee on the way at one of the beachfront huts. You will have a free lunch at the hotel and a visit from Father Christmas.

Our final excursion is to Quarr Abbey, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty and home to Benedictine monks. Wander round the gardens and enjoy a coffee in the tea-rooms, or light a candle in the Abbey at this time of Remembrance. We continue on to Ryde, the largest town on The Isle of Wight, with a rich history, a lively seafront and plenty of shops. Bembridge was voted the National village of the year in 2019 due to its windmill, picturesque harbour and bustling village centre, and we will include a visit during our stay.

Our base for this luxury, late Autumn tour is Llanberis in the Snowdonia National Park. We will enjoy beautiful scenery, great Welsh food & free bar each evening.

We begin with a drive along the coast, with stunning views of Anglesey and the Menai Strait, to Bangor, where I know  ‘a lovely time’ is guaranteed! We then continue along the coast to The Bodnant Farm Food Shop with it’s spectacular views of the Conwy Valley. Enjoy coffee and ‘Bara Brith’ in the cafe and buy some treats for Christmas. We will then  drive through the Gwydir Forest to the pretty village of Beddgelert in the heart of Eyri. Time to see the historic bridge and church before we return to our hotel via the Pen-y-pass, with even more gorgeous scenery.

On your free day in Llanberis why not visit The Slate Mine, browse the local shops or take the train up Mount Snowdon. Alternatively you can sit back and admire the breath-taking views of Snowdon from the comfort of our hotel.

Our final day out begins with another scenic drive to Halen Mon, where the  sea-salt is made, on the Isle of Anglesey. Chance for a browse in the shop or a coffee in the outdoor café (weather permitting) and admire the panoramic views of Eyri and the Menai Strait.  Our next stop is The Pili Palas Nature Reserve, with chance to see butterflies, reptiles, insects and other animals in a warm environment, no matter what the weather is outside! We end with a drive to Beaumaris, with it’s stunning views to finish our day.

Our New Year tour this year will be based in Bideford, so we won’t have far to travel. The hotel has been recommended, and boasts a great New Year’s entertainment package.

We will enjoy a lunch-time stop before being greeted at the hotel with tea or coffee in the lounge. Why not enjoy a cocktail from the Appledore Bar before our dinner, followed by the first night of live entertainment.

On New Year’s Eve we will visit the nearby market town of Oakhampton, often referred to as ’The gateway to the moor’. We will have time to explore this quaint market town before returning to the hotel in time to get dressed up for the main event. There will be a Gala New Year’s Eve dinner, accompanied by a piper to sound the start of the celebrations. At midnight, you will have  a glass of bubbly to toast the New Year and party poppers to make sure it goes with a bang!

On New Year’s Day there will be a leisurely brunch served from 9am, with the rest of the day to spend as you choose.
