Join us for our first stay in the Victorian town of Llandrindod, Wales where we will welcome in the New Year at The 4* Metropole. The town is bordered by two stunning national parks, The Brecon Beacons & Snowdonia, so we are guaranteed great scenery as well as good food and entertainment.
After enroute stops for coffee and lunch, we will be welcomed at our hotel with tea, coffee and Welsh cakes while our suitcases are taken to our rooms. We can then relax before dinner and the first night’s entertainment.

After our sold-out tour last year, we return again this year, by popular request, but this time staying at a city centre hotel.
We will visit The Imperial War museum at Duxford, Britain’s best-preserved World War 2 airfield. The museum includes the historic Operations Block, the nerve centre of Duxford’s Battle of Britain campaign, Airspace, home to 30 iconic aircraft, the American Air Museum featuring Europe’s biggest collection of US military aircraft & Historic Duxford, which recalls wartime flying aces such as Douglas Bader.
No WW2 tour would be complete without visiting Bletchley Park, where Alan Turing & his colleagues helped crack Germany’s Enigma Code. We will uncover the remarkable story by visiting the functional Codebreaking Huts & Blocks, Alan Turing’s office, the library, wartime garages (compete with WW2 vehicles) & a series of interactive exhibits. The café is Hut 4, formerly the home of Naval Intelligence.
We will also visit Cambridge for you to see The Fitzwilliam museum, The Botanic Gardens or take a punt on the river Cam. There is an American War Grave Cemetry nearby and we will include a stop.

Mother’s Day Break in Cornwall 12th—16th March

What better place to be than Cornwall for Mother’s Day, where Spring always comes early! The daffodils may have already been picked from the local fields, but the gardens will be ablaze with colour from the early flowering spring plants.
Llanhydrock is the quintessential country house and estate with the feel of a wealthy but unpretentious family home. After a devastating fire in 1881, the Jacobean house was refurbished in high-Victorian style, with the best in country-house design and all the latest mod-cons. The extensive gardens have year-round colour, with beautiful herbaceous borders, a fabulous parterre and colourful higher gardens filled with camelias, magnolias and rhododendrons. We will also include a stop in Looe, a picturesque fishing village and now home to the BBC series ‘Beyond Paradise’. Famous for it’s wide, sandy beaches, harbour and maritime history, now it’s another popular tourist destination with plenty of cafes and shops.
You will have a free day in Newquay to enjoy. Although well known as Britain’s surfing capital, the town offers wonderful cliff and beach walks and a picturesque harbour to explore, as well as it’s cafes, bars and shops.
Charlestown was once a thriving working port, constructed to export copper and china clay. Now it’s principal industry is as a film set and a tourist destination. With it’s beautifully preserved, pretty, pastel fisherman’s cottages lining the harbour, cafes and quaint shops you can see why. We will also stop in Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm for a tour and a tasting of the famous Rattler’s cyder, as well as a Cornish cream tea.

Explore Plymouth’s History 10th—13th April

This is our first tour based in Plymouth, staying at ’The Duke Of Cornwall’, a beautiful, Victorian gothic hotel, ideally situated on the fringe of Plymouth’s vibrant city centre, just a short stroll from Plymouth Hoe.
We will include a visit to Morwellham Quay, a World Heritage Site featuring the only open copper mine in the UK, made accessible to visitors by a riverside railway. Explore the port and village and experience what life would have been like with the aid of an interactive living history team, before riding the narrow gauge railway along the banks of the River Tamar, before it heads deep underground.
Tavistock is a thriving market town and the only one in Devon to hold World heritage status. It’s home to the West country’s most important Benedictine Abbey where the monks created the very first cream tea. You will have time at leisure to explore the independent shops, indoor panier market or the museum.
Plymouth is Britain’s ocean city, whose fortunes were shaped by the sea, trade and war, and you will have a day to see all it has to offer. The historic port of The Barbican is only a short walk from our hotel, so explore it’s narrow, cobbled streets, Elizabethan warehouses and quirky shops. Why not visit the National Marine Aquarium, The Mayflower museum or take a cruise on Plymouth Sound to see Drake’s Island. With it’s naval heritage there are numerous pubs as well as a gin distillery , so there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Royal history, rolling fields, market towns and classical colleges follow the River Thames as it winds through the historic counties of Berkshire and Oxfordshire to London. Our tour showcases the pleasures and treasures along the way.
Henley-on-Thames is our first stop, famous for the annual Regatta, where you will have time to explore before we enjoy a 2 hour river cruise. Enjoy a cream tea as we sail to picturesque Mapledurham Lock, past waterside homes, islands and picture postcard ‘Wind in the Willows’ country, the scenery that inspired the classic novel.
We begin today at The Savil Garden, a 35 acre oasis in Windsor Great Park. Commissioned by George V and created by Eric Savil, this ornamental haven offers wonderful summer displays of roses, at their peak in June, as well as Royal-themed gardens. In the afternoon we visit Royal Windsor where you will have time to explore the Castle, stroll along the cobbled streets or stop at the Olde King’s Head pub, reputedly where Shakespeare wrote ‘The Merry Wives Of Windsor’.
Our final day is spent in Oxford, dubbed ‘The City of Dreaming Spires’. Flanking the Thames and River Cherwell, admire the glorious architecture of Christ Church college, the Bodleian Library and Ashmolean Museum. We finish with a visit to Brightwell Vineyard, where we learn about how the wines are made before sampling 5 varieties.

Scarborough is arguably the oldest seaside resort in Britain and advocated sea-bathing more than a century before Regency Brighton! On this tour we take a nostalgic look back at transport, as well as the glorious countryside of Yorkshire.
Helmsley is one of those perfect English market towns with it’s castle ruins, charming tea rooms and old-world charm, surrounded by the beautiful North York Moors. We will have some time here and include entry to the Helmsley Walled Gardens, with it’s 5 acres of different gardens designed to promote health and wellbeing in this haven of peace and tranquillity. We will also stop in Pickering, an historic market town with an abundance of heritage and home to the North York Moors Railway.

We return to the popular resort of Cromer, one of the only places in the UK where you can see the sun rise and set from the same bench outside our hotel. Cromer is known for it’s sandy beaches, delicious Cromer crab sandwiches and also boasts one of the most sunny places to stay.
A trip to Norfolk wouldn’t be complete without a tour of the Norfolk Broads on a Mississippi Paddle steamer. Our river cruise will take us from the beautiful village of Horning along the River Bure to Ranworth Broad, passing lovely old thatched houses and windmills. There is excellent commentary during our 90 minute return journey, pointing out all the wildlife, such as Kingfishers, Herons and Bitterns. We will have free time in Wroxham, known as the capital of The Norfolk Broads, with it’s boating, wildlife and heritage attractions. We finish with a stop in Aylsham, a charming market town with historic buildings and a Jacobean hall.
On your free day in Cromer take time to explore the narrow twisting streets and bustling harbour, as well as enjoy a fresh Cromer crab sandwich.
Holkham Hall is an 18th century Palladian house, home to the Earls of Leicester, and consists of a glorious marble hall, state rooms and art galleries. We will spend time exploring the house and it’s gorgeous walled garden with Victorian greenhouse, vineyard and a kitchen garden. We finish with a stop in Wells-next-the-Sea with it’s colourful huts and bustling harbour.

Our next Autumn tour is to Ilfracombe, home of the famous mermaid sculpture by Damian Hirst, Verity, which stands in the harbour.
We begin with a visit to the twin villages of Lynton & Lynmouth where we take the cliff railway from one to the other. The unique, water powered funicular cliff lift takes you 500 ft up and down to the villages where you have time to explore the independent shops, cafes and learn about the devastating Lynmouth flood of 1952 in the museum. Our first Christmas tour this year is a return to The Shanklin Hotel on The Isle of Wight, where we are assured of exceptional service and entertainment.
We will enjoy an excursion to The Needles, an iconic landmark in Alum Bay, home to the famous coloured sands the Island is known for. We then continue on to Cowes, famed for it’s regatta. We begin with a drive to Porthmadog for a ride on one of the most famous Welsh railways, The Blaenau Ffestiniog. Enjoy the 13mile journey with dramatic views of mountains, lakes and waterfalls as the train climbs to 700 feet above sea level. We then continue on to Conwy, one of the most complete medieval walled towns in Europe. Enjoy the views of the Conwy estuary from the castle walls or wander the narrow streets with it’s quirky shops and cafes.
Llandudno is Wales largest resort, uniquely situated between The Great & Little Ormes, and famed for it’s 2000ft Victorian pier. With a multitude of shops in the tree-lined streets, there is plenty for everyone to enjoy on your free day.
Finally we will enjoy a scenic drive down the Conwy Valley through the Snowdonia National Park, enjoying the stunning autumn colours. Join us on our visit to the East coast where we will explore the region’s beautiful countryside and quaint villages, as well as enjoy lovely gardens, a river cruise and discover the fascinating history of Colchester.
Our first visit is to Beth Chatto’s gardens, once an overgrown wasteland and now an inspiration to all visitors. We continue on to the lovely seaside resort of Frinton-on-Sea, with it’s tree-lined avenues and elegant esplanade for some time at leisure.
Colchester was Britain’s first city and the former capital of Roman Britain, so we will have a full day to explore this fascinating city at leisure and see the many important and unique Roman sites and ruins. There are five museums and galleries within two minutes walk of each other, so spend the day discovering about it’s history from the Iron Age, through Roman and Norman times to the present day. As well as the Castle Museum, visit the only known Roman Circus in Britain and the winding streets of the Dutch Quarter.
Today we visit Lavenham, known as ‘England’s Finest Medieval Village’ due to it’s fine examples of timber framed Tudor buildings. We also stop in Flatford, home to the 16th century mill made famous in Constable’s paintings. We begin by visiting Hardwick Hall, a spectacular Elizabethan country house built in the 1500s by ‘Bess of Hardwick’, and filled with rich furnishings and tapestries preserved by successive generations of the Devonshire family. We continue on to the market town of Chesterfield, dominated by it’s famous crooked spire, where we have time to explore the shops and cafes.
Today we travel to Chatsworth House where we will have a guided tour to explore the magnificent Painted Hall, State Rooms, Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery, before enjoying the spectacular gardens. Built in the 12th Century, it contains collections of paintings, porcelain and furniture that have accumulated over many generations. The gardens were influenced by Gertrude Jekyll, a frequent visitor, and are a popular filming location.
With it’s charming harbour of quaint, pastel coloured houses, 14th century church, and Damien Hirst’s statue, Verity, standing guard at the harbour entrance, there is much to see on your free day in Ilfracombe. Two islands that famously encapsulate the best of the Scottish landscape are Bute & Skye, and our stunning tour features stays on both.
After an overnight in Carlisle, we travel from Wemyss Bay by ferry to Rothesay, arriving at our country house hotel in time for dinner. We will visit the neo-gothic Mount Stuart House & Gardens, set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens, woodland & coast. We then enjoy a scenic tour of the beautiful island of Bute.
Today we take a short ferry ride back to the mainland and travel along the shores of Loch Fyne before arriving at ‘the outdoor capital of the World,’ Fort William. We then head to Mallaig passing the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct before catching the ferry to Armadale on Skye and making our way to the hotel.
