With it’s colourful promenades, sandy beaches, Victorian pier and rich history, it’s not hard to see why Eastbourne is such a popular holiday resort.
We begin with a stop in Battle, a charming market town that took it’s name from the famous ‘Battle of Hastings’. We continue on to the flourishing town of Rye with it’s medieval buildings, cobbled streets and a rich maritime history. Our last stop is Hastings, home to the remains of the first castle in England to be built by William the Conqueror. Wander the old town’s winding streets and tiny twittens, crammed with Tudor houses and flower-bedecked cottages
You will enjoy a day at leisure in Eastbourne. Our hotel is ideally located for the town and just a short walk from the pier, Why not get the ‘Dotto’ land train and see all the sights with a hop-on-hop-off day pass, or enjoy a bracing walk along Beachy Head.
Bateman’s was Rudyard Kipling’s home from 1902 until his death in 1936 and we will have time exploring the Jacobean house and gardens which he and his wife fell in love with. Surrounded by the Sussex countryside, this 17th century house with it’s mullioned windows and oak beams provided a much needed sanctuary to the writer and inspired much of his work. We continue on to the Edwardian sea-side resort of Bexhill on sea, the birthplace of British motor racing and known for it’s historic architecture and cultural heritage. We end with a final photo-stop in Pevensey Bay where William The Conqueror invaded Sussex.
