COST PER PERSON: £375 PER PERSON
Includes Morwellham Quay
This is our first tour based in Plymouth, staying at ’The Duke Of Cornwall’, a beautiful, Victorian gothic hotel, ideally situated on the fringe of Plymouth’s vibrant city centre, just a short stroll from Plymouth Hoe.
We will include a visit to Morwellham Quay, a World Heritage Site featuring the only open copper mine in the UK, made accessible to visitors by a riverside railway. Explore the port and village and experience what life would have been like with the aid of an interactive living history team, before riding the narrow gauge railway along the banks of the River Tamar, before it heads deep underground.
Tavistock is a thriving market town and the only one in Devon to hold World heritage status. It’s home to the West country’s most important Benedictine Abbey where the monks created the very first cream tea. You will have time at leisure to explore the independent shops, indoor panier market or the museum.
Plymouth is Britain’s ocean city, whose fortunes were shaped by the sea, trade and war, and you will have a day to see all it has to offer. The historic port of The Barbican is only a short walk from our hotel, so explore it’s narrow, cobbled streets, Elizabethan warehouses and quirky shops. Why not visit the National Marine Aquarium, The Mayflower museum or take a cruise on Plymouth Sound to see Drake’s Island. With it’s naval heritage there are numerous pubs as well as a gin distillery , so there is something for everyone to enjoy.
