Stepped in myths and legends, the ancient town of Llangollen is our focus for this fantastic tour.
We begin with some time at leisure to explore Llangollen, before our 2-hour ride on a horse-drawn canal boat along the beautiful, clear waters of the Llangollen canal, admiring the Chain Bridge across the River Dee. Enjoy a cream tea as you marvel at the man-made Horseshoe Falls whilst gliding along one of the most beautiful lengths of canal you will ever see.
This morning we head for the Llangollen Railway, primarily a steam hauled heritage railway. Enjoy spectacular views of the River Dee on our 90 minute return journey to Corwen, a picturesque market town at the foot of the Berwyn mountains where we will have some free time. Our next stop is Ruthin, an historic market town packed with history from medieval times to the Tudors and more. You will have time at leisure to explore the castle, the cobbled streets or Ruthin Gaol, the only purpose built Pentonville style prison open to the public.
Finally, we visit Chirk Castle, a medieval fortress now owned by the National Trust, which reveals 400 years of changing tastes and fashions. Explore the beautiful gardens with stunning views over the Cheshire and Salop Plains. No trip to Llangollen would be complete without a motorised canal boat ride on the world famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, otherwise known as the ‘Stream in the Sky’.
